Stockton Heath’s Wild Bettys completed a 40 mile bike ride for Abbie, and raised over £2,000!!!
A group of ladies from the Wild Bettys cycle club formed from the Wild Bikes cycle shop in Stockton Heath took part in a fundraising bike ride covering 40 miles from Southport to Stockton Heath.
Wild Betty ride leader and event organiser Helen Guttridge explains "The Wild Bettys are a group of local lady cyclists who were looking to find a local cause and help them raise funds. A fellow Betty mentioned her friend’s daughter has Rett Syndrome and was trying to raise funds for specialist equipment. As this is a predominantly female condition, we thought it the perfect cause for our all-female cycling club".
“For many of the ladies this ride was to be the furthest they had ever ridden, and as well as making a personal achievement knew that they would be helping little Abbie. Thankfully the weather was good and although a little windy in Southport, we completed the ride in a very respectable four hours. And of course, we had lots of laughs on the way.”
To see these ladies cycling back into Stockton Heath, knowing that they had done this for Abbie was overwhelming. They deserved the cake waiting for them!!
If any ladies are interested in joining Wild Bettys please visit their website at www.wild-bikers.co.uk
To launch Abbie's Trust with a bang we hosted a Fund-raising Ball.
And we are so grateful to everyone that wished us luck, helped on the night, came to the event, donated raffle and auction items, and raised money for Abbie.
Did you know that:
Everyone has said howenjoyable the night was, how delicious the food was and how brilliant the band, Indi Trix, were. Rob and Kieran made the perfect auctioneers and Team Abbie did their stuff to perfection - as ever!
Many people have asked are we doing another fundraising ball next year….You bet we are!!
Abbie's Trust all dressed up and ready to party!
A full room!
Auctioneer Rob and his gavel (or is that his wife's rolling pin and a piece of wood??)

Jeans for Genes raises money for Genetic Disorders UK and aims to change the world for children with genetic disorders, including Rett Syndrome. It is only fitting that we got involved in this day and organized some fun and games at work. We held a cake bake-off and sale, guess the number of blue sweets in the jar, guess the famous jean-clad bottom photo quiz, and sale of loom bands made by Abbie’s brothers.
The winning cakes made by Michele!
We raised £200 for Jeans for Genes Day,
7 weeks before the event, Abbie’s dad decided to run the Warrington Half Marathon, 12 years since his last proper run!!!!
He completed the race in a respectable 1 hour, 50 mins and got a well-earned cuddle at the finish line.
Abbie and her hero!
When word got around that Tony was in training, his friend and colleague of 20 years, Jon, approached him and volunteered to run it with him. Jon said “if this helps Abbie then what is two hours of hell for me” - even more of a commitment since Jon had not run for 12 years either and only had 3 weeks to train. His son, Tom, joined him on the run, and together with his other son, Joe, they collectively raised over £400!!! We thank you, thank you, thank you J
Everyone gave very generously and the grand total was an amazing £1,500!!!!
Thank you Jon and Tom!
Our Fabulous Auntie Val rounded up friends, family, her street, her church, random people she meet in garden centre car parks (she really did!), and invited them all round for coffee and cake. Kind people donated 39 (yes, 39!!!) items for a raffle.
In total she raised a MASSIVE £600!!!! So a big thank you to Val and everyone that helped on the day, donated raffle prizes and obviously drank copious amounts of coffee
