Abbie’s Trust has been set up to initially raise money for an Eye Gaze computer, see “Eye Gaze”. If we are fortunate enough to reach this target all additional money will go towards ongoing therapy to keep Abbie healthy and mobile.
Being able to speak is something we take for granted. Abbie will never talk. Using sign language is not achievable through her involuntary hand movements, and the use of PECS (picture cards) is very limited and requires the intervention of a second person to help second-guess what Abbie is trying to say/feel/do.
But Abbie can control her eye movement. Eye Gaze technology with specialist software now means communication is possible. The technology is expensive, and funding by the NHS is not guaranteed.
To give Abbie the best chance in life and the ability to communicate with her family and the world around her Abbie’s Trust is raising money to access this new technology
